Canaan Old Home Days

Canaan Old Home Days dates back to 1899 when it became one of 44 New Hampshire towns to hold the first of these celebrations. Governor Frank Rollins wanted folks to come back to the New Hampshire towns that they were from, to see it was still a desirable place to live and work even though farms were being abandoned and towns were looking run down. Rollins formed an Old Home Week Association and in August, 1899 Old Home Days was celebrated by towns all over New Hampshire, including Canaan.

Held the first weekend in August, some of the traditional Canaan Old Home Days events include:

  • Chicken BBQ Dinner at the Legion
  • Themed Parade
  • Children’s Games
  • Soap Box Derby
  • Dunk Tank
  • Music & Dancing at Williams Field
  • Softball Tournament
  • Cow Flop Drop
